DECODING THE TREND | FIVE FOOLPROOF WAYS TO WEAR METALLICS
Golden hues probably already fill your jewelry box, but FW23 saw the molten shade find its way onto more than necklaces and bracelets.
Metallic clothing brightened more muted pieces (so often associated with fall and winter) and classic black-tie palettes to create looks that are decidedly modern, both celebratory and sophisticated. They replaced bright color to complement the runways’ more pared-back party season offering and found a high-low balance with more casual pieces.
Here are our five failsafe wears to go bold in gold this season.
01.
GO GOLD FROM HEAD TO TOE
Embrace the trend by going all in and building a top-to-toe metallic outfit. The easiest way to achieve this is through our curation of metallic dresses inflected with gold detailing.
Our Fashioned Rib Metallic Fit and Flare Midi Dress features vertical bands of metallic fibers that curve in around your waist to create a slightly hourglass silhouette while the skirt falls in a flattering drape. Swapping a knitted yarn something a little lighter, our Silk Metallic Flower Lamé Dress + Belt is crafted from a soft silk blend and acts as a sartorial tour de force of our signature intelligent design details: an optional belt (that doubles as a necktie), shirred cuffs that emphasize the drape of the balloon sleeves, and a dipped hem that is a little higher at the front to create the illusion of a longer leg.
The last style in our tempting trio of golden delights, a metallic maxi dress, our Glitter Velour Ruched-Front Maxi Dress. Combining a black velour-jersey base with metallic foil, it heroes a subtle shimmer that emphasizes the gathered details that meet at your waist to achieve a flattering drape through the front. With both a zip and hook-and-eye fastening, the neckline can be styled in three different ways: as a round neck, a V-shaped one, or with a neat keyhole detail
02.
FIND A HIGH-LOW BALANCE WITH DENIM
The effortlessly everyday way to introduce a metallic finish to your closet: metallic tops. Our Metallic Ruched Detail Long Sleeve Top achieves a smart-casual balance through its semi-sheer jersey and classic long-sleeved silhouette combined with its shimmer finish and adjustable tie front that emphasizes the gathered detailing running through the front.
Ground the style with our Split Seam Jean in either a regular or short length paired with our Retro Sneaker and shrug on our Italian Wool Sculptural Sleeve Jacket over the top to continue the elevated-pared-back balance.
03.
MAKE TAILORING MOLTEN
A pairing already familiar with your black-tie edit meets gold-toned jacquard to create our Gold Jacquard Suit. It marries a single-breasted blazer with kick-flare metallic pants that can be styled separately for a more subtle nod to the metallic trend or together with a black blouse or tee to create a more casual finish. We opted for our Cashmere V-Neck Crop Vest to play with textural differences that grounds the metallic weave.
Arguably more versatile than your failsafe Little Black Dress, black pants are the perfect partner to a top inflected with golden detailing and hues. Instantly granting tailoring a celebratory feel while acting as a refreshing seasonal alternative to silk or cotton shirting, our Metallic Pussybow Blouse + Cami and Metallic Balloon Sleeve Top meet our Fluid Pleat Front Satin Man Pant to build statement looks equally appropriate for a day at the office, (even more so if it’s the day of your office party), as it is for weekend festivities. The blouse is topped with a fitted necktie and adjustable neckline to create different finishes while its balloon sleeves fall to fitted cuffs that can be pushed up. The top takes a more pared-back approach with semi-sheer jersey accompanied by a metallic finish, a classic round-neck cut and long sleeves topped with gathered details that are positioned a little closer to the neckline than your shoulders to create flattering volume.
04.
INTRODUCE A GILDED TOUCH TO A MIDI SKIRT
Our Evening Shimmer Pleated Maxi Skirt is a multitasking investment. It features a deep waistband that complements untucked tops and knits - in the case of this look, our Metallic Double-Faced Relaxed V-Neck Vest - without adding bulk while its high waistline slots in seamlessly with cropped pieces. In a close-fitting finish, our Fashioned Rib Metallic Top slots in easily over the deep waistband or can be tucked in without disrupting the finish. Pull on our Luxe Short Shearling Coat in black over the top for a luxurious finish.
05.
CHOOSE A HINT OF SHIMMER INFLECTED THROUGH A PRINT
A key investment for the season that finds a home in both your pared-back everyday outfitting and evening rotation, our Metallic Zig Zag Chevron Fit and Flare Maxi Dress does it all. We worked hard to source the metallic yarn it’s crafted from, one that is still soft on the reverse without sacrificing the lustrous finish on the outside. The result: a comfortable, almost knit-like finish that is luxuriously lightweight.
Dress it up with velvet slingbacks and a shearling jacket, dress it down with our Retro Sneaker, or find a happy middle ground with our 70s Knee High Boot.
