This Season's Must-Have Skirts

Women’s skirt hemlines have been rising and falling almost as much as interest rates of late - dispelling the long-held theory that the length of a skirt or dress correlates to stock prices.

While we can’t speak for anyone in Canary Wharf or on Wall Street, this is good news for our FW wardrobes as there’s a full spectrum of silhouettes to explore and find a home for throughout the coming months. The beauty of these investments is that they also have spring-summer versatility too, unlike cozy winter knits and insulating coats, these styles will see you through the year’s (temperature) highs and lows.

1: A Mini Skirt

A Londoner - just like us - the now-iconic mini skirt was born in the British capital in the 60s, spotted on everyone from Jean Shrimpton to Twiggy. These King’s Road frequenters rubbed shoulders with the designer who christened the style after the car of the same name, Mary Quant.

We’ve reimagined a classic skirt suit with our iteration. In soft wool-blend flannel tailoring sourced in Italy, this mini skirt is pressed with neat pleats towards the hem to find a classic-contemporary balance and is complemented by a matching jacket. Wear the pieces together for a head-to-toe workwear look or sport the skirt with a tee and an oversized knit loosely tucked into the waistband for a more casual one. Whatever your destination, complete your ensemble with our Thigh High Stretch Leather Boot.

2: A Knitted Skirt

What is there not to love about a knitted skirt? Almost unbelievably comfortable (surely wearing something with the fit and comfort akin to pyjamas to the office or lunch out with friends shouldn’t be legal?) these styles translate the luxuriously soft yarns synonymous with our curation of knitted sweaters and cardigans to skirts - think soft merino wool and cashmere blends.

A double dose of cosy, insulating comfort, our Merino Jacquard A-Line Skirt is complemented by a coordinating vest while our Merino Cashmere Rib A-Line Skirts can be worn with their matching sweaters and cardigan. These solutions make light work of building complete head-to-toe looks suited to work, travel, weekends, and everything in between.

3: An A-Line Skirt

A refreshing workwear alternative to structured suiting or restrictive pencil skirts, A-line skirts debuted as part of Christian Dior’s New Look collection in the 50s and put the emphasis on hourglass silhouettes. In keeping with the original while also introducing a more modern appeal to the style, our Luxe Flannel A-Line Skirt and Ponte A-Line Skirt are suspended from high-rise waists and fall through from a more fitted silhouette at your hips to a wider one at the hem for a polished finish.

Transition from desk to dinner - and the weekend - with the styles paired with our Wool-Blend Blazer Coat for an elegant AM-PM look or our Swing Back Authentic Bomber to introduce a more directional edge to the mix.

4: A Midi Skirt

Neither too short nor too long, midi skirts are the Goldilocks solution to skirts. A closet staple that ensures you’re never under nor over-dressed, ours fall from high waistbands to the perfect middle length that highlights the narrowest point of your ankle and celebrates your pick of fabrics.

In this case, though, we’re spotlighting our Luxe Cord A-Line Midi Skirt. A rich navy hue covers its Italian cotton cord fabric while flatteringly positioned pockets are found just towards the front of the side seams for a streamlined silhouette. Double, triple or even quadruple your dose of the color with our High Neck Rib Detail Long Sleeve Top, Silk Cotton Layering Shirt, and Italian Bouclé Military Crop Jacket.

5: A Maxi Skirt

Arguably the skirt silhouette most acquainted with our collective closets through the centuries, maxi skirts instantly introduce a sense of occasion to your outfitting while still managing to achieve easy high-low balances with off-duty staples.

An easy everyday solution, our Scribbled Floral Print Maxi Skirt boasts a series of bold flower silhouettes in bright blue set against a deep backdrop to transition your looks between seasons.

For a more formal approach, our black Flat Waist Pleat Ponte Maxi Skirt is complemented by our Sweetheart Neckline Ponte Top for a look that is at once effortless and polished. And if all-out glamour, subtle shimmer and a hint of sparkle are more your bag - especially in preparation for party season - our Sequin + Georgette Godet Maxi Skirt is the style you’ve been seeking; decorated with a series of fine sequins, it reinvents tux suiting when styled with a tailored jacket and achieves a more casual finish with soft knitwear.

6: A Denim Skirt

Denim skirts were a key FW22 trend, and they’re proving they’re no flash-in-the-pan trend or passing fad. They found ways to diversify our SS23 wardrobes and the same can also be said for our fall ones now that they’re adopting different guises and lengths. In our case, though, we’re homing in on the A-line denim skirt. This deep blue-wash iteration is shaped to a midi length that flatteringly highlights your ankles and features contrasting panels of black denim through the sides to emphasize the shape and grant the fabric more fluidity.

Embrace rich tones and subtle texture clashes by styling it with our Brushed Cashmere Gold Button Cardigan pulled on under our Luxe Short Shearling Coat, introducing a third tactile fabric to the mix with our Crinkle Patent Leather Ankle Boot.
