Welcome to the Neighborhood | East Hampton Edition |
To celebrate the opening of our newest ME+EM store in East Hampton, we’re taking you on a tour of the neighborhood’s best spots. Our new store on Newton Lane, just off Main St, is the perfect place to start or finish your day exploring what the town has to offer.
BREAKFAST LUNCH DINNER
Tutto Caffé
Start your day at Tutto Caffé on Main Street, an Italian-style cafe and bar. By day Tutto Caffé serves organic coffee sourced from founders Gianpaolo de Felice and David Mayer’s family-owned coffee company in Costa Rica, pastries and light breakfast bites. By evening it transforms into a wine and cocktail bar that’s ideal for enjoying a pre-dinner aperitif or post-dinner digestif.
The Golden Pear Cafe
A Main Street mainstay since 1991, The Golden Pear Cafe is known for founder Keith E. Davis’ championing of local home-grown ingredients and its welcoming atmosphere. Drop by for breakfast or lunch and enjoy homemade classics like breakfast burritos, omelettes, salads and sandwiches, all prepared fresh and in-house.
Rita Cantina
Rita Cantina is known and loved for its modern coastal take on traditional Mexican cuisine that utilises locally sourced ingredients from the nearby Gardiner’s Bay and surrounding areas. Enjoy classics like queso dip, tacos and quesadillas alongside modern dishes such as chorizo clams and oyster aquachile. Be sure to wash it down with one of their flavoured margaritas.
EXPLORE
Springs Farmers Market
If you find yourself in the area on a weekend, be sure to check out Springs Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. From fresh baked goods, fresh fruit and veggies and locally brewed beer, there are plenty of stalls to browse and support local businesses.
BookHampton
More than your average neighborhood bookshop, BookHampton has been a beloved mainstay in East Hampton for over 40 years. It was saved from near closure in 2016 when it was bought by long-time resident Carolyn Brody and now doubles as a community hub that hosts lively author events.
Pollock-Krasner House
Once the marital home and workspace of abstract expressionist artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner, Pollock-Krasner House is a National Historic Landmark that’s a must-visit for art lovers. Seasonal guided tours are carried out throughout the property where you can see the paint-splattered floor in the barn that was once Pollock and Krasner’s art studio.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Georgica Beach
A trip to East Hampton isn’t complete without a visit to the picturesque Georgica Beach. The long sandy stretch is perfect for picnics, or if you prefer a more action-packed beach day there’s the option to surf, or kayak and paddleboard in nearby Georgica Cove.
Grey Gardens House
Located in the Georgica Pond neighborhood just a stone’s throw from the beach, Grey Gardens is one of East Hampton's most famous properties. Perhaps best known as the once-ramshackle home of ‘Big Edie’ and ‘Little Edie’ Beale - aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis - Grey Gardens is a historic shingle-style house turned landmark. Since it was purchased in 2017 by fashion entrepreneur Liz Lange, the house and its surrounding gardens have been lovingly restored and are a popular sight among East Hampton visitors.
REST
The Maidstone
After a day of exploring there’s nothing like returning to the comfort of The Maidstone Hotel, located in a restored impressive Greek Revival home. The traditional exterior boasts classic whitewashed shingles and dark green shutters, but walk through the door and you're met with a characterful interior and uniquely decorated rooms - think botanical wallpaper and a curated balance of modern and vintage furniture.
ME+EM
Find us at 7 Newton Lane, where we’ve brought our classic ME+EM interiors and merged them with the neighborhood’s relaxed, coastal feel. We’ve decorated the space with Rose Uniacke upholstered velvet stools, Pinch Anders pendant lights and a bespoke long table, made in the UK from two pieces of English Burr Oak. Stuck for inspiration? Check out our ME+EM peg board wall by the register - it’s updated daily with new outfit-building combinations from our collections. Don’t forget we’re a dog-friendly store, complete with custom Tina Vaia ceramic dog bowls.
