Petite perfect

We so often hear from customers asking about which styles are best for petite body types, especially at this time of year when flowing maxi and midi dresses abound.
To help tackle the subject, we enlisted the help of two of the teeniest members of the ME+EM team: Áine, our eCommerce Co-ordinator and Steph, our Creative Project Manager, both 5’2”. Aine and Steph have styled this season’s key dress shapes to show how they’ll really look on a smaller frame and decode how those design devices we regularly turn to work to flatter every body shape.

Side stripe

From subtle piping to wide grosgrain, a sporty side stripe is a ME+EM signature. It draws the eyeline upwards to visually elongate the body and instantly add inches. It also serves to break up a print so that you’re not totally enveloped.

Adjustable straps

Shortening straps will bring up the neckline and overall fit of a dress, allowing you to customize the fit you want. And pilling your hair in a high bun is another excellent way to add a few valuable inches.

Adjustable waist

A removable belt or drawstring or elasticated waist guarantees a perfect fit in the body, regardless of shape. Having an adjustable option around the waist means you can choose whether to really cinch in a dress if feel you need it, or leave it loose and flowing.

Curved hem

We’re always sure to design any midi or maxi length dress with a curved hemline. By showing more of the leg at the front so that you can always see the shoe and a hint of ankle, you instantly create the illusion of longer legs and stop the dress looking or feeling too long and overwhelming.
