We’re tempted to thank the early 00s obsession with logomania (a moment when dousing a look head-to-toe in brand monikers and designer logos was the peak of fashion heights) for 2023’s quiet luxury trend. The love child of the stark minimalism synonymous with Scandi style and the complete rejection of extravagance defining the normcore trend that men’s fashion popularised a few years ago, it’s understated, sophisticated; it focuses on quality fabrics - think irresistibly soft cashmere and Italian tailoring - it has an obsession for soft neutrals, classic shades, and - most importantly - no logos.
Since the boom of 80s maximalism, we’ve toyed with minimalist fashion, dipping our collective toes into stripped-back silhouettes and a pared-back palette, but something about a loud color or large logo always seemed to distract the zeitgeist. Unlike trends that have come before it, there’s something evergreen about quiet luxury; pieces free of logos or brand names, without clashing colors or prints. It’s about timeless fashion, forever style, and pieces that never age. This could be the one time a trend is anything but fly-by, it’s about investing in your closet now and well into the future.
For anyone who’s a devotee of color, print and a subtly embroidered logo or two, the quiet luxury trend doesn’t call for you to detox all that you love, there are ways to embrace the trend with a few key investments. Here are our seven.
The Wear-with-and-to-Everything Blazer
1.
It’s the thing that fashion dreams are made of - or ours, at least - a blazer that isn’t too structured, or too relaxed, that is at once a standalone jacket and blazer, that complements sports-luxe pieces with the same panache as tailoring. One such piece sitting in the elusive Goldilocks Zone: our Herringbone Double-Breasted Blazer.
In wool-blend tailoring, it’s the result of three day’s worth of pattern-cutting perfecting, where everything from the positioning of the shoulders to the placement of the pockets and Italian gold-toned buttons running through the double-breasted front has been tweaked, questioned and finally perfectly engineered.
While it’s complemented by both a slim-crop pant and wide-leg man pant, it doesn’t have to be sported as part of a polished two piece. One of quiet luxury’s pillars is curating pieces that seamlessly line up alongside other styles already filling your closet, from your pair of trusty jeans to the leather pants you finally invested in last year.
The White Shirt
2.
Crease Less Cotton Forever Shirt A perfected basic and closet staple, reimagined through our Intelligent Design lens. While you might already have one (or twelve) white shirts already hanging in your closet, this iteration stands apart. The only one you’ll ever need (if we do say so ourselves), it’s crafted from cotton specifically engineered to crease less - the perfect accompaniment to busy days and last-minute evening plans - and features elasticated panels in the sleeves to help keep them in place when they’re pushed up.
Build a clean, fresh look by pairing it with dark-wash jeans like our Baggy Low-Rise Jean in an authentic mid-blue wash.
The Cashmere Knit
3.
If you’re only going to invest in one piece from this list - or even one style that taps into quiet luxury - let it be a pure-cashmere knit. A closet without one is a harsher place - quite literally. Whether it’s a hoody or round-neck sweater, a cardigan or V-neck vest, it wraps you up in luxurious softness, elevates even the most casual of pairings, and works for everything for, well, work, travel, weekends… the list goes on.
Simply cut with a neat V-neckline, our Cashmere Relaxed V-Neck Sweater is spun from lightweight pure cashmere knitted with a slightly loosened tension to create a covetable drapey finish and is framed by ribbed trims at the cuffs and hem. Side splits are one of our signature design details that emphasize the drape and divide the slightly dropped hem at the back with the higher one at the front for a flattering finish.
The Elevated Pant
4.
Satisfying two sartorial obsessions with one investment, our Satin Cargo Pant + Belt reimagines a utility staple in a luxury fabric to effortlessly find a high-low balance.
Both timeless and contemporary, it puts a refreshing spin on classic eveningwear pairings as well as your well-curated closet styled with a boucle jacket and shirt or silky cami. Keep your palette minimal and monochrome, a black-and-white bralette-style top helps you to transition from desk to drinks while a loosely tucked-in knit achieves that effortless, just-thrown-on-together look with an elegant finish.
The Sneakers
5.
2018 started the dad sneaker trend and 2020 cemented the styles in our collective closets. Between working from home and socially distanced walks, we started to rank comfort over all else in the shoe steaks and in the couple of years since the pandemic’s slowly faded from our lives, every season brings with it fresh iterations of a year-round staple: the sneaker.
Keeping your choices to the minimum, our Retro Sneaker crafted from a combination of soft suede and smooth leather boasts either a black or off-white colorway and is simply stamped with the words “keep walking” down one side in gold-toned lettering.
The beauty of a classic palette like this is that it complements everything filling your closet - perfectly pressed pants, jeans, skirts, dresses, the lot.
The Co-ord
6.
Proving that you don’t need fussy decoration, embroidery or color to make an impact, our Ponte Skirt Co-ord is all about clean lines and uncomplicated minimalism.
The definitive desk-to-dinner solution, it takes all the best aspects of the 90s’ stripped-back aesthetic and combines it with innovative, comfortable fabrics that transform the neatly defined cuts. Adding extra mileage to your investments, the top is suspended from detachable straps to create a bandeau style suited to your out-of-office hours.
The Shirt Dress
7.
Wardrobe staple since Christian Dior introduced one to his New Look collection in the 50s, the humble shirt dress has taken on a full spectrum of guises through the decades, from bold to neutral dresses, so what is it about ours that cements it in the realms of quiet luxury?
Fluid Stripe Maxi Shirt Dress + Belt
Its classic stripe print to start, which breaks up and highlights the construction when it runs horizontally over the cuffs, belt and shoulders. Next, the single button signing off the cuff and collared neckline outlined with gold-toned hardware, and finally the machine-washable fabric because an investment piece is worth its weight in gold if it doesn’t require a trip to the dry cleaners.
