Can you believe we haven’t been enjoying the freedom and versatility of a tailored pant for even 100 years? It’s hard to imagine that men had all the fun of suiting and effortlessly polished tailoring until the middle of the 20th century. Representing more than a relief from heavy skirts and corsets, pants as part of women’s sartorial lexicon is intrinsically woven with the women’s rights movement and a symbol of freedom, in every sense of the word.
A comfortable, flattering pair of women’s pants is worth its weight in gold and it seems spring/summer ‘24 has discovered just how versatile, adaptable and all-round incredible they are. Here are the eight pant styles we’re bookmarking, not only for this season, but many more to come.
1 | THE BLACK PANT
Pant’s answer to your trusty LBD. Works with everything - without exception - and when styled with more casual pieces, effortlessly perfects high-low dressing.
Pants have been the uniform of the working woman for decades, none more so than the classic black pant.
We’ve taken the familiar neutral and translated it to three different types of pant silhouettes this season. First up: the Textured Boyish Cigarette Pant. In textured tailoring woven with comfortable stretch and shaped to a flattering slim cut, it’s an easy everyday pair with a contemporary, polished finish to style with blazers during the week and oversized knitwear at the weekend.
The final two styles in this trio both hero tapered-leg shapes but our Textured Tailoring Tapered Pant combines it with a cropped length that highlights the narrowest point of your ankle while our Rib Waist Fluid Tapered Pant falls to deep cuffs that can be turned up to shorten the length while achieving a more casual aesthetic.
2 | THE CARGO PANT
A far cry from its 90s and 00s interpretations, this utility trend has grown up.
Once the staple of boy bands the world over - cue synchronized look up to the camera - today, cargo pants, like their millennial counterparts, have grown up. Cuts have become sleeker, silhouettes more flattering, and fabrics more luxe. Enter: our Wide-Leg Cargo Pant. Elevated to new heights to find more roles to play in your year-round closet, this pair is crafted from pure cotton in a spring olive colorway, falls to a flattering wide-leg silhouette and features those signature patch pockets down the legs, but perfectly placed so that they don’t add bulk to the sleek shape.
3 | THE FLARE PANT
In both cropped and full-length silhouettes cater to different heights.
Introducing confident shape and sculptural proportions to your closet while reviving tired workwear tropes, flared pants are a quick solution to updating office looks and introducing a polish to weekend outfitting. Choose between our Wool-Blend Exaggerated Crop Pant (that doubles as a full-length on petites) engineered to create flattering space at your ankle while complementing tall boots and our Wool-Blend Exaggerated Flare Pant that heroes a full-length cut emphasized by a flattering high-rise waistband. Build a contemporary suit with our coordinating Wool-Blend Sharp Longline Blazer.
4 | THE TAUPE PANT
Works with literally anything and everything.
Need we say more? Before we let the images do the talking, we will just highlight that our Tailored Wide Tapered Pant + Belt features a drawcord belt to perfect the fit, flatteringly placed functional pockets that don’t add bulk to your hips, and polished pleats that create structure on the soft wool tailoring. Combine that with its easy taupe hue, it’s no wonder this is a pair you’ll find yourself reaching for again, and again, and again.
5 | THE COLOR-POP WIDE-LEG PANT
Brightens classic neutrals and perfects color dressing from head to toe.
Introducing color - and bold color at that - to your rotation can be daunting. We’ve been fed a palette of pared-back neutrals and earthy tones for so long that stepping away from that feels like a risk.
Saying that an easy way to start wearing more color is by investing in a pair of color-pop wide-leg, high-waisted pants might sound extreme (a bright knit or colorful tee would surely do the trick?), but this actually leaves so much more open in your closet when it comes to styling. With our Pleated Ultra Wide-Leg Pant focusing the color on the bottom half of your outfit, the top half is free to indulge in every neutral tone imaginable. If you want to douse a look in head-to-toe pink (a key theme this season), the pant’s matching Cotton Blend Fitted Contour Jacket and cozy Merino Cashmere Silk Lace Stitch Sweater Vest + Snood do just that.
6 | THE SWEATSHIRTING PANT
Cozy with a polished finish and structured shape, this pant sits at the apex of comfort.
In navy or olive, our Sweatshirting Wide-Leg Pant complements pared-back palettes as well as color-pop ones, finding roles to play in your WFH closet and off-duty weekend one. Elevate your look with cotton shirting during the week accompanied by an oversized knit, and at the weekend (or when 6pm rolls around), coordinate your look with our matching Roll Cuff Sweatshirt. Continue to wear this pairing well into the weekend with long-sleeved base layers and outerwear staples like our Authentic Leather Biker Jacket.
7 | THE CROPPED PANT
Perfectly engineered to flatteringly highlight your ankle while handily doubling as a full-length on petites.
Our cropped pants take on an array of different cuts, shapes, and silhouettes. Our hero styles for this season are the Cotton-Blend Tapered Pleat Pant and Extreme Seam Casual Pant.
The former falls to turn-up cuffs that allow you to adjust the leg length and is suspended from a high-rise waist for a polished finish that holds its own with both tailored separates and more casual pieces.
The latter, in breathable pure cotton, heroes either a deep tobacco hue or classic navy and is structured with its namesake extreme seam detailing around the legs to create flattering volume at the sides of the legs but keeps a streamlined finish on the inside. You can also turn up the cuffs on these styles to retain a cropped length on petites or to avoid fabric bunching when styling with ankle boots in colder months.
